{red} velvet underground

8 years ago I spotted this long red velvet jacket in a fashion magazine. It has a certain flair to it—a little bit Paris meets The Great Gatsby if you will. I loved it so much I made it my mission to hunt it down immediately - which is not normal behavior for me, it just really, really caught my eye.  Mission accomplished!  It's traveled, moved with me, and experienced different time zones.  Here we stand on the streets of NYC together.

In the spirit of fashion week I'm recognizing my favorite fashionistas that live and work here in NYC.  Because I believe aesthetic style is just 1 facet of a stylish persona, my choices are all individuals with both incredible style and incredible talent.  {I'm a huge fan of individuals with depth}

Most stylish female:
Leigh Lezark.  Model and DJ here in Manhattan. That hair. That icy stare. Stunning.


Most stylish male:
Luigi Tadini.  Market director at Paper Magazine.  Incredibly put together. 100% of the time. 


Most stylish NYC-based designer: Alexander Wang.  I LOVE his collections. Every single one of them.  I also love that he can be seen most days in a black hoodie and/or classic white tee - proves my belief that style can be casual and effortless.

And because Alexander Wang is just uber cool, guess who closed his show last night for Fashion Week?  None other than Gisele herself pranced down the catwalk, taking the audience by complete surprise.  She's no rookie, she didn't have to do this.  He's just that awesome.

givenchy spring 2012 couture {ornate piercings galore}

Givenchy's 2012 Spring Couture collection takes a new spin on classic Givenchy.  Lots and lots of texture, angular pieces, harshness and softness, and darks and lights. Contrasts that Givenchy is known for.  I've always thought that Riccardo Tisci designs for rockstars in the back of his mind.  And I think for this collection he was also a little bit (subconsciously) inspired by Rooney Mara's edgy performance in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

the wackness

It's been remarkably warm this winter in NYC so far.  So much so that I've been out and about in open toe shoes and booties more this winter than possibly the past 7 winters combined. Crazy? Yep. Lovin' it? Totes.

color me spring

We've been having some whimsical warm days here in NYC, and that has my mind on spring.  I'm thinking of rocking some colorful sunnies and a matching lip to get into the spirit.  Who knows, maybe winter will skip us altogether.

brian atwood - b untamed campaign - spring 2012

I originally saw this 30 second Brian Atwood Spring 2012 campaign in a cab here in NYC.  What caught my eye was the movement of the girl in sync with the movement of the fringe on her shoe.

What's most interesting, is that I later discover this promo is directed by Dominique Polambo, a photographer and movement artist. There's a lot of movement going on here, and movement is sexy. The shoes, the fringe of the dress and even the model's hair are all moving simultaneously to the music. This ad is genius.

Unless you've ever spent any time in the city of Boston.  Green Converse spotted on the C train. Think this guy is a Rondo fan?

It was a cold and sunny Martin Luther King, Jr. day in Manhattan.  I managed to capture a few shots on my way to midtown today.

This horse was watching me, we made eye contact several times as I walked in his direction.  I've heard many sad stories about poor treatment of the Central Park horses, I hope they're untrue.  I walked up to this guy and we shared a moment.
